For 97 years the Woman’s Auxiliary of the University of Texas at El Paso has provided scholarships and support for students. Many donations were made to the University at the inception of the Auxiliary, such as blankets for the Miner’s football team, landscaping and beautification of the campus, cooking meals at the campus cafeteria, donations for band instruments, as well as the uniforms. Also, the Auxiliary paid the salary of the band instructor. The Auxiliary was instrumental in establishing the city’s first museum - the El Paso Centennial Museum on campus.
Early funds allowed the Auxiliary to establish two scholarship endowments for academics and athletics. In 1989 a memorial scholarship fund was established to provide an opportunity to remember loved ones in a significant manner. In 2007 the Auxiliary pledged $100,000 for the Centennial Campaign. This obligation was met in four years.
With the addition of many doctoral programs at the University, in 2011 the Auxiliary donated $10,000 toward establishing a fellowship for a student pursuing a Doctoral Degree. We are continuing this support.
The Auxiliary Scholarship Benefit Luncheon is held each year to raise funds for scholarships for UTEP students. At least twelve scholarships are provided each year. In addition to the continuing funding of scholarships, the Auxiliary also donates to various university departments, such as the music department and the library. A five-week Estate Planning Seminar for Women is provided each
year during January-February with no cost to the participants.
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the betterment of the University, the community and our youth and society in general.
