In early 2020, I began visiting the Humane Society of El Paso, hoping to find my new best friend. On February 7th, I met Honey—a small, terrified puppy cowering in the corner, too scared to be touched. Yet, when I looked into her eyes, I felt a connection.

Outside in the playpen, Honey remained frozen with fear. She wouldn’t move, play, or approach anyone. But even then, I felt a deep connection to her. Once we went inside, she began to open up—just a little—but I knew this was the dog I was meant to love. With the encouragement and support of the Humane Society staff, I decided to adopt her. Little did I know, it would become one of the best decisions of my life.

On the ride home, we bonded over music, and Honey burrowed into my jacket for comfort. We made a stop at Target to pick up everything she needed, and from that moment, I was dedicated to helping her feel safe. Our first few days together were an adjustment, especially for Honey, but I gently introduced her to her new home. Slowly, she began to realize it was hers.

I started training her, and that’s when Honey truly began to blossom. Her confidence grew, and so did her trust in me. Over the years, she has transformed into a dog I’m incredibly proud of—one I can’t imagine my life without.
