Protecting Rights & Advocacy: Dignity. Justice. Humanity. For Every Immigrant
We are known as The PACK. We are a passionate group of advocates from Estrella del Paso, standing together to protect the dignity and humanity of immigrants in our community.
Every day, our team provides free legal services, Know Your Rights presentations, and community education to ensure that immigrants, including unaccompanied children, understand their rights and have access to justice. We fight to protect due process, empower individuals through education and advocacy, and guide those facing detention or deportation with compassion and expertise.
Protecting Due Process: Everyone in the U.S., regardless of immigration status, deserves fairness under the law. Our attorneys and accredited representatives make sure detained immigrants receive hearings, interpreters, and the chance to be heard.
Know Your Rights (KYR): Through workshops and outreach, we teach people how to safely assert their rights — to remain silent, refuse a search, consult an attorney, and ask, “Am I free to leave?”
Community Education & Pro Se Guidance: We equip immigrants with tools to navigate court on their own when no attorney is available, holding sessions inside detention centers, shelters, and schools.
Advocacy: We push for policy reforms and fight against unjust practices like family separation and detention without cause. Our advocacy expands legal protections and access to justice for vulnerable immigrants across the border region.
From children detained alone to families fighting deportation, too many face a system that is complex, overwhelming, and often unjust. The PACK is here to change that: one person, one case, and one right at a time.
In 2024, Estrella del Paso stood at the front lines of justice: in the community, courtrooms, and detention centers, making sure no one faced the system alone.

Our Legal Orientation Program specialist helped a woman from Mexico, who found herself detained in a broken system.
Maria came to the US with hopes of working and being independent. Her life took an unexpected turn when Maria lost her vision and had no one to care for her. Things worsened when Maria was placed in ICE detention. While inside the El Paso Processing Center, Maria met with specialists from Estrella del Paso’s Legal Orientation Program or LOP.
The LOP team visits detention centers and provides group and individual presentations, pro-se guidance, and refers cases to Estrella del Paso’s removal defense team. Members of the LOP team can also appear as a friend of the court whenever there is a special case that needs assistance. Some examples are assistance with a third language interpreter or helping someone with a disability.
Rene Sanchez, an accredited Representative at Estrella del Paso encountered Maria while she was in detention. Rene helped Maria gather the required documents and fill out an asylum application, and a motion to be released on bond.
Rene was met with many obstacles trying to meet with Maria inside the detention center. Her inability to see required that she be escorted, and that was often difficult to coordinate with officers inside the detention center. Rene recognized the urgency in getting Maria released from detention.
Rene appeared at her immigration court hearings as a friend of the court, and presented her application, motion, and sponsor documents. He stood by her before an immigration judge throughout her proceedings. Finally, after months in ICE custody, Maria was granted a conditional release.
While Maria’s case still isn’t over, one major obstacle was overcome by ensuring that she is no longer in ICE detention and can receive the care she needs for her condition. Your support ensures Estrella del Paso can continue to provide the legal representation Maria has come to rely on.
