As a child growing up across the border, I will visit family members living in El Paso, in one of those visits my cousin introduced me to two shows that would become a huge part of my life- Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhod and Sesame Street. Growing up during a time when cable, streaming, and iPads did’t exist, regular TV channels were all we had, these programs became my window to learning English and essential social, emotional and educational lessons. These programs were more than just TV -they shaped my childhood.

Fast forward to today, and I am fortunate to now work for PBS El Paso.It feels like a full circle moment. Now I can help create community events and spaces that ensure that children and their families have access to the same kind of educational content that had such a lasting influence on me. It’s a privilege to help continue PBS’s mission of bringing positive family-friendly programming to everyone, regardless of background or resources.
