I want to share with all of you something that I think you can support. Since you know me you know what I do for work but I’d like to paint a picture for you that will help you understand my compassion for the students I teach and why the program at ELB is so important. I wish you could watch these kids grow and make progress like I get to every day.
For example: I have a little boy named Noah who uses an AAC communication device throughout the school day to tell us what he wants and needs. He is now putting two and three words together when he asks for something. I’ve watched him go from hitting, screaming, pinching, and throwing things to now participating and even answering questions to show me that he HAS been getting the lessons. Without his device, I think he would still be a little difficult to interact with and I wouldn’t really know how much he knows. The very exciting part recently has been hearing him start to talk and make letter sounds with his actual voice. Noah has Down syndrome and I would hate for people to underestimate him. It doesn’t cost more than $700 to fully equip one kiddo with this kind of device. This is something that could benefit at least 7 of my students.
Of course we can use your funds for all kinds of activities with the kids but this one is close to my heart because I have fully seen the benefits this year.
