I am the founder and Executive Director of ACTion Programs for Animals (APA), and this is one of my APA dogs, Chico. He is a behaviorally-challenged, special needs dog, and these are the APA animals I usually take home–the ones much harder to place in homes. With me, he has flourished and is a happy dog. We strive to find homes like mine for animals like Chico each and every day!

We have rescued nearly 6000 dogs/puppies and cats/kittens and want to continue doing so for years to come. The need in Dona Ana County is still great. We rescue the most at-risk animals from our municipal shelter and community. Some need extra time and TLC, others are sick and injured and need surgery or specialized care, and others need to be trained and rehabilitated at our prison training program called P.A.W.S. (Prisoners and Animals Working Toward Success).

We take great care of our animals in our adoption center and in foster homes until they find thier furrever homes. We also provide services for people in the community to help provide for thier own animals, including low-cost vaccinations and microchips and pet food and supplies for needy families.

This year has been a hard one for nonprofits. Like you, we are struggling with rising costs in everything, and we are in dire need of your help TODAY. We do not say that lightly; we are at risk now of having to reduce operations or worse because our expenses are outweighing our earnings. That’s the honest truth.
