I would like to share a story about MB, an 18-year-old high school student experiencing homelessness. After spending several nights sleeping on a bench in downtown El Paso, unsure of where his next meal would come from, he came to our Winchester House emergency shelter, a program of El Paso Human Services, Inc.

Over the next five months, MB received case management support to obtain legal documents, access mental health counseling, complete his high school education, and secure job referrals. He was then referred to our rental assistance program, where he moved into an affordable apartment of his choice. The program covered his rent for several months until he became financially stable.

Today, MB has been stably housed for more than two years and is employed with our organization as a security officer, recently moving into a full-time position. Looking ahead, he hopes to start a family and perhaps attend college.
