Why Rebuilding Together Matters to Me

For many years, Rebuilding Together El Paso has been an important part of my life. What started for me as volunteer service eventually became a much deeper commitment to our mission: Repairing homes, revitalizing communities, rebuilding lives.

Every day, I see the difference that a safe and healthy home can make. Many of the people we help are older adults, people with disabilities and veterans who have lived in their homes for decades but no longer have the financial or physical ability to make essential repairs.

Sometimes the solution is relatively simple—a grab bar, a handrail or an ADA toilet. Sometimes it is a major project, such as converting an unsafe bathtub into an accessible shower or building a wheelchair ramp. But behind every repair is a person whose independence, safety and peace of mind can be dramatically improved.

I am also very proud of how our mission has grown. Through SHEBuilds, we have now empowered almost 300 women with the confidence and practical skills to handle home repairs themselves and to help others in our community.

More recently, we helped establish the Veterans Homecoming Collaboration, bringing organizations together to help homeless and vulnerable veterans transition back into stable housing and the community. Rebuilding Together contributes what we know best: creating safe, healthy and accessible living environments.

This is why I continue to be personally committed to Rebuilding Together El Paso—and why I am asking for your help.
