Abara
Abara means “ford” in several Semitic languages—a place where a river is shallow enough to cross. Like a ford, we create physical and relational spaces that help people cross divides and build peace, leading to collective flourishing on the border and beyond. In response to global migration and a polarized world, we foster connection to inspire narrative, systems, and personal change. We envision a global Beloved Community rooted in justice, peace, healing, and transformation. Learn more at Abara.org.

Dear Friends,

We’re honored to participate in the 8th annual El Paso Giving Day on October 16!

As the hashtag suggests, #ElPasoGivingDay is all about local generosity, supporting nonprofits like Abara that are rooted right here in the borderlands.

For us, it’s a day to dream big and stand in solidarity with those along migrant pathways. This year, we’re aiming to raise $15,000 to support migrant shelters on both sides of the Rio Grande and sustain our ongoing operations.

Abara exists to create hospitable spaces for learning, dialogue, and connection, bringing people together beyond the headlines to rehumanize conversations about migration. Our Shelter Connector team regularly meets with shelter leaders—many of them pastors or faith community members, to assess needs and connect resources.

Your gift helps provide essentials like hygiene supplies, formula, diapers, and clothing, and fuels the work of our local team walking alongside those at the heart of this crisis.

Will you help us reach our $15,000 goal? Every gift, big or small, makes an immediate impact.

Thank you for giving, sharing, and for participating along with us. If you have any questions, simply reply to info@abara.org

With gratitude,

Team Abara

Abara recently moved! Our offices are now adjacent to the border near the Historic Hacienda. We're in process of renovating offices while working on site. We invite you to consider supporting this project financially. Any amount will help as we create hospitable training space to gather leaders from around the United States and beyond.
The joy of team work.
