Causes: Advocacy, Education, Health and Mental Well-being
The borderland trail network spans the region, offering routes for every skill level—from beginner-friendly trails to challenging chain-assisted climbs in the mountains. Our mission includes the maintenance of trail and trailheads while working with land owners and managers to improve the outdoor experience to all. We work very closely with all of the land managers and owners, our largest partners being the Franklin Mountain State Park, El Paso City Open Space and Frontera Land Alliance.
Help us with a renovation of the Lost Dog Trailhead BMBA has developed a plan to renovate this beloved trailhead (the first non state park trailhead in the city funded and installed by the BMBA 14 years ago) thoughtfully and has established a dedicated fund for the project. The renovation will combine practical improvements with environmental stewardship. Green stormwater infrastructure will capture rainfall and help sustain native landscaping. Chihuahuan Desert plants will connect visitors to the surrounding ecosystem. Educational elements will help people understand the landscape they are entering and why its conservation matters. A new drinking water fountain will provide an essential amenity for trail users, while parking improvements will create a safer, more functional arrival and departure experience.
Help us with trail maintenance We are working on training our strong volunteers through trail maintenance schools to ensure we have the skill set to deal with such things as mutli use trails, water runoff, and accessibility. Recently our storage location was broken into, and numerous donated tools were stolen. Some of our trail tools are expensive and while we have great turnout of volunteers, we need tools for them to use.
