Desert Spoon Food Hub
In January 2019, the sole grocery store serving the Rio Grande neighborhood closed, leaving the densely populated low-income community a food desert. Help us break the barriers to food security with El Paso's first community focused non-profit grocery store located in the historically underserved Rio Grande district of central El Paso.

Causes: Environment, Health and Mental Well-being

It was the great food philosopher, Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin who said, “The future of nations will depend on how they feed themselves,” and we see today how very true these words are.

Desert Spoon Food Hub is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving a crucial, but often invisible, part of the local food system. At a time when too many families are uncertain of where their next meal will come from, Desert Spoon ensures all entities along the food supply chain, from farmers and farmworkers to consumers, benefit from our food systems model. Desert Spoon’s programs are deeply rooted in both sides of our food system helping small farmers sustain their livelihoods and making access to fresh fruits and vegetables attainable for all.
