Causes: Children and Youth, Education, Health and Mental Well-being
El Paso is fortunate to have a local Shriner chapter. The El Maida Shriners of El Paso provide our borderland community children and their families with transportation services to access necessary and often life-saving medical support. Our organization is powered by volunteers who contribute their time to speak to case managers, secure travel vouchers, and schedule travel flights, among many other responsibilites. While many of our patients are local, far more come from our neighboring country of Mexico. Without our local Shriners many young patients and their families in the surrounding areas would have to travel long distances to arrive at a Shriners Children’s Hospital for their doctor’s appointments or scheduled surgeries. Many of these patients have difficulties traveling these long distances; we take pride in assisting them.
Our organization not only helps with medical needs but also colaborates with the community to assist women, children, and teens to become leaders and role models. We have several units in our organization that focus on developing these leadership qualities. Unfortunately, COVID created financial instability in our organization. Membership dropped and it became difficult to fund transportation dues and building maintance costs. Our building, which can be uses by local organizations for a sponsorship fee, is in dire need of repairs.
Our organization is also responsible for bring the Shriners’ Circus and hosting the Trick or Treating event for Child Protective Services. Your generous support will allow the El Maida Shriners to repair our Temple Auditorium and allow us to continue providing a space for us to continue our Fraternal activities, host community events, and provide youth development opportunities. Our future mission is to provide more youth opportunities that will strengthen our local community while promoting self-development. Your support will assist our temple in organizing and providing these opportunities.
Please join us in continuing our work.
