Causes: Homelessness and Housing
🚦 Diversion Services: Preventing Homelessness Before It Begins At the El Paso Coalition for the Homeless (EPCH), we believe that the most effective way to address homelessness is to prevent it from happening in the first place. That’s why our Diversion Program is a cornerstone of our work—offering immediate, personalized support to individuals and families who are at imminent risk of losing their housing.
Diversion is a client-centered, problem-solving approach that helps people explore safe alternatives to shelter entry. Through compassionate conversations and strategic resource coordination, our team works to identify practical solutions that align with each person’s unique circumstances. Whether it’s reconnecting with family, securing short-term financial assistance, or arranging transportation to a stable living situation, diversion empowers clients to choose their own path forward.
Our services may include:
~Financial assistance for rent, deposits, or utility reconnections
~Transportation support, including bus tickets or gas cards
~Temporary lodging through hotel vouchers
~Employment-related assistance, such as work gear or uniforms
~Connection to community resources and support networks
By focusing on prevention, EPCH helps reduce the strain on emergency shelters and ensures that limited resources are directed where they’re needed most. Diversion is not just a program—it’s a philosophy of dignity, choice, and proactive care.
