It is a nationally chartered organization as a 501c (19).

Causes: Children and Youth, Education, Veterans

General of the Armies John J. “Blackjack” Pershing is the inspiration behind the founding of the MOWW in 1919, and the Order is continually adapting to new generations of veterans in order to maintain its relevancy and ensure its success. Companions within our chapter, established in 1979, provide support to veterans of all ranks and services; youth patriotic (civic) education; college ROTC and high school JROTC programs; Scouting; monuments and memorials; law & order programs; national and homeland security programs. Companions in the MOWW seek to inspire love of our country and flag. Our motto is “It is nobler to serve than to be served.”

Locally we work with 35 JROTC units throughout the area as well as college level ROTC units at UTEP, NMSU and New Mexico Military Institute. Our JROTC area stretches from El Paso to Santa Teresa, Gadsden, Canutillo, Las Cruces, Deming, Truth or Consequences, Alamogordo and Rowwell NM. This also includes the lower valley, including Socorro, San Elizario, Horizon City, Clint, Fabens and even Midland. Scouting is a key focus as well and we are represented at Eagle Scout Ceremonies and other activities year round. Our recognition of local first responders is an ongoing activity throughout the year. Participation in parades such as Veterans Day and staying active with other Veterans oranizations in community events shows our support of the military heritage of our city. Each fall we talk with elementary school children across town to tell them what it means to be an American and discuss why we have served in the military. Sponsoring the annual Massing of the Colors is a major event that includes up to 100 Color Guards from organizations throughout the community.
