The MCA exists to ensure that the health care needs of the Paso del Norte region are met by facilitating the growth of an entire “life sciences ecosystem”—from delivering health care education and training for our region’s workforce to commercializing biomedical research and innovations. Everything we do is aimed at both improving health and creating economic opportunity in our region.

Causes: Education, Entrepreneurship, Health and Wellness

The Medical Center of the Americas (MCA) Foundation, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization who seeks to improve healthcare and create economic opportunity in our region through programs and real estate developments in support the vision of a newly forming medical campus in El Paso.

When COVID-19 hit our region, the MCA stepped up to help our community respond by:

  • Creating the COVID-19 Enhanced Regional Public Health Partnership with the City of El Paso, UTHouston School of Public Health and the Paso del Norte Health Foundation (PDNHF),

  • Contracting the Battelle Foundation, an international science and technology company at the forefront of the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic, to work with the partnership leaders and provide hands-on support and guidance,

  • Leading efforts to improve the availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and COVID-19 testing in our region,

  • Bringing Battelle’s much sought after PPE Decontamination Unit to El Paso,

  • Supporting over 52 entrepreneurs in over 30 startups through our Innovation Center, some of which sought to address issues caused by COVID-19,

  • Helping to bring COVID-19 treatments and research to our region through our Clinical Trials Consortium,

  • Creating STEM resources and activities to help our region’s teachers and students overcome the difficulties of virtual education,

  • Supporting affiliate organization BIO El Paso-Juarez in launching a task force to support and protect the production of medical supplies and devices in our region.

Our region needs the MCA’s work to continue now more than ever. Donations like your will support:
