Southern New Mexico Diabetes Outreach
Southern New Mexico Diabetes Outreach (SNMDO) strives to bring community awareness, promote healthy futures, and provide support for pediatrics and adults living with diabetes. Our mission is to provide access to diabetes detection, prevention, education, and support. Currently, SNMDO is the only diabetes focused organization in southern NM. In our 27 years of operation, Southern New Mexico Diabetes Outreach has provided the following programs all at no cost to participants: Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME), Support Groups, T1D Warrior Camp, and Wellness Screenings.

Causes: Children and Youth, Disability Services, Health and Mental Well-being

Diabetes Epidemic in New Mexico:

  1. About 12.3% of the population has been diagnosed with diabetes and nearly half a million people have not yet been diagnosed.
  2. 11% of Dona Ana County has diagnosed diabetes. Surrounding counties average between 10% and 16%.
  3. The state of New Mexico is currently facing a physician shortage. Many southern counties have a physician-to-patient ratio of 1 to 2,000.

Our goal for El Paso Giving Day is to raise crucial funds to allow us to grow our existing education programs and kids camp. Please consider joining us in addressing the pressing issue of diabetes in our community. Diabetes affects thousands of individuals through the Paso del Norte region, and we believe that with collective effort we can make a positive impact.
