As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Southwest Athletic Commission is committed to developing the next generation of leaders through a youth sports program that emphasizes character, discipline, and teamwork. We call this program "Building Character Through Sports." We empower youth from underserved and economically disadvantaged communities by providing access to organized sports programs by funding either team and league registration fees or uniform and sports equipment expenses. We require young athletes ages 5 to 12 years old to watch short Character-Building videos prior to each sponsorship season. Character Building videos can include topics such as Anti-Bullying, Showing Respect, Helping Others, Showing Kindness, Integrity, Honesty, Responsibility, Self-Control, and other valuable traits that help create well-rounded, high character individuals. The result of our "Building Character Through Sports", program is much more than creating stronger athletes—it's growing a better society. As these young people learn teamwork, discipline, honesty, and compassion, they carry those values into their families, schools, and neighborhoods—becoming the leaders, mentors, and neighbors who make our communities stronger for generations to come.
