Now as a Program of The Underserved Communities Foundation (UCF), Harmonious Home was created with a simple yet powerful vision: to transform lives by transforming living spaces. For families and individuals transitioning from homelessness, the program provides thoughtfully chosen furnishings, décor, and home essentials that turn empty rooms into safe, dignified, and welcoming home environments. With each transformation, Harmonious Home helps families take their first steps toward stability and independence.

From Shelter to Home Sweet Home!

***“I’m an Army veteran and a mom of four incredible children. The abuse did not start all at once. It started with small things I ignored and explained away. But even after that… I stayed. Because for many people in these situations, it takes a lot before you finally leave. Eventually, I realized we were no longer safe in our home. I went into a domestic violence shelter with my children, and from there we fled to New York to be closer to family.

Even through all of this, I kept pushing forward. I continued school while trying to rebuild our lives and eventually completed my bachelor’s degree in healthcare. After struggling financially, we eventually made our way to El Paso and ended up at the YWCA shelter. And honestly, I am grateful for that place because that is where my children finally began to breathe again.

But what people do not talk about enough is what happens after the shelter. We moved into an apartment… and it was empty. My children were sleeping on the floor. And I was trying to be strong for them… but inside… I felt like I was failing. Because I got them out… but I still could not give them a home. That is when I heard about the Underserved Communities Foundation and Harmonious Home.

Days after applying and connecting with Diana Hastings… we walked into our apartment… and everything had changed. Our whole apartment had been fully decorated and made so beautiful. But more than that… it felt peaceful. It felt safe. It felt like someone cared. My children finally had somewhere safe to sleep and just be kids again. And then something happened I did not expect. I walked into my bedroom… and it had been transformed too. That night, I took a shower and cried. Because for the first time in a very long time… I felt peace, relief, and care. And that is when it finally felt like we were not just surviving anymore. We had a home. And that changed something in me. For the first time, I could finally start focusing on the future instead of just surviving day by day.”
