We believe art is not a dispensable element of life but central to nurturing the very essence of what it means to be human. Tom Lea loved this region and portrayed it with a sense of wonder. During these uneasy times, The Tom Lea Institute’s events, tours, and educational programs transport us to a place of beauty and refreshment where our community has the opportunity to bond with each other. You can help make all the following initiatives happen.

We hope to raise $2,000 to:

 Implement monthly themed walking tours such as “Downtown Treasures”, “Travel the world in Architecture, or “Exploring the Murals of Segundo Barrio” to engage visitors with Tom Lea’s artistic inspirations and local culture.

 Host “Artmaker” camps tailored to providing children in our community with hands-on opportunities to delve into landscape drawing and printmaking techniques reminiscent of Tom Lea’s work.

 Collaborate with the community to organize celebratory events honoring Tom Lea’s profound impact and artistic legacy.

 Conduct fine arts teacher development workshops led by renowned local artists such as Blanca Estrada, Joey Lee Cabral, and more, focusing on Tom Lea’s artistic principles and methods to enrich educators’ skills and knowledge.

 Support Tom Lea Fellowship recipients from UTEP by offering tailored resources and guidance.

 Provide educators with a wealth of educational materials, including over ten free blended curricula and instructional videos accessible via our website.

 Facilitate the expansion of the Tom Lea Trail Mobile Website, reaching over 9 million people with the stories, art, and writing of Tom Lea.

 Offer access to our extensive digital image library, comprising over 1,000 high-quality images, to scholars and publications seeking visual resources related to Tom Lea’s artistry.

 Curate traveling exhibits aimed at sharing the enduring legacy and cultural significance of Tom Lea’s contributions with audiences across various regions.

Thank you for any contribution, big or small! Together, we can feel a sense of pride and gratitude for El Paso’s culture and history through the art of Tom Lea.
