Animal Rescue League of El Paso Inc.
Animal Rescue League of El Paso is incredibly grateful for your continued support. This year marks a major milestone—30 years of rescuing and caring for homeless dogs and cats in El Paso and surrounding areas. We’ve been able to do this life-saving work because of YOU and the unwavering support of our community. This El Paso Giving Day, we’re especially thankful to have The Melinda and Meyer Marcus Family Foundation and the Andrea Dorsey Kirs Legacy Fund as our matching fund partners. That means every donation you make will be doubled—providing twice the help for our pets-in-waiting. It’s like getting two cuddles and twice the puppy breath—all for a great cause!

Causes: Animals

Animal Rescue League of El Paso is nestled on two acres in Canutillo, Texas, where a sign above our gate reads “La Quinta Xenecu” — The Inn of the Weary. For thousands of stray, orphaned, injured, and abused animals, our shelter has served as a safe haven and a stepping stone to a better life.

One of our core missions is to educate the community about the importance of spaying and neutering, helping reduce the number of homeless pets in our area. Through our educational outreach program, we visit local schools to promote responsible pet ownership and the value of adopting from shelters.

To assist our community ARLEP has sponsored free vaccination clinics, provided our fire departments with smoke inhalation masks for pets and we continue to partner with the El Paso Sheriff Department’s PAWS program. This special collaboration provides vocational training to inmates while giving rescue dogs a second chance. Through basic obedience training, these dogs become more adoptable—and many go on to find forever homes.

Every year, Animal Rescue League of El Paso rescues and rehomes between 900 to 1,200 dogs and cats. Before adoption, all animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. In addition, dogs are tested (and treated, if necessary) for heartworm, Ehrlichia, and/or Lyme disease, while cats are tested for feline leukemia.

Our work is only possible thanks to our community’s support—and the dedication of those who believe that every animal deserves a chance at a happy, healthy life.

Elsa and Anna were found in an oil pit along with a deceased sibling and brought to ARL. They were approximately six weeks old, weighed less than five pounds each, were tick infested, dehydrated and emaciated. Not only were their little bodies broken so were their souls. ARL was able to provide them a foster home where both their bodies and souls could heal. After four weeks of nutritious food, vitamin supplements, medical testing and lots and lots of TLC the Girls recovered. Elsa and Anna were adopted together.
ARL collaborated with the El Paso Sheriff's department to develop the PAWS (Pets Advancing Wellness and Success) Detention Program. PAWS is an inmate vocational program that provides inmates with vocational training in dog obedience and kennel care. This program benefits ARL's dogs by teaching them basic obedience training prior to being adopted.
King was found with a retractable leash wrapped around his back leg. The leash had been on long enough to cut off all blood supply, leaving the leg unsalvageable. When ARL received King's pictures we asked the people who found King to take him straight to our vet, Dr. Fruend. King's leg was amputated and his healing began. King has fully recovered and is patiently waiting to be adopted.
