Causes: Advocacy, Migration, Social Justice
In May 2026 El Paso began to observe detainment of immigrants as they left their hearings in Immigration Court. BILJC in collaboration with legal service providers and others began a community immigration court monitoring project to monitor changes in implementation and execution of rules by DHS. We have repeatedly observed individuals who go to court, receive a final hearing date and are detained by ICE agents on their way to court. Cases of risk are flagged for non-profit legal service providers. Data collected is intended to support the work of our local immigration service providers. The work is done to educate the public around what is taking place and advocate for the rights of our immigrant neighbors.
Our El Paso Giving Day goal this year is to raise $5,000. This will support the work of coordination, education and advocacy.
